APHRODITE AS MOTHER

As goddess of the tender passions, Aphrodite bore many children — in fact, up to a dozen. They included three by Ares, one by Hermes, Hermaphroditus, Aeneas, legendary defender of Troy, Eros (Love), Anteros (the avenging spirit of spurned love) and, by Adonis, the girl Beroe, after whom the city of Beirut, Lebanon, is named.
