Pedestal clocks were popular when pocket watches were too expensive for most people and the clock faces often featured advertising. There are three historic cast iron pedestal clocks left in Manhattan. The E. Howard Clock Company's clock is located on Fifth Avenue near the Sherry Netherland and was most likely installed in 1927. The E. Howard Clock Company created the first mass-produced pocket-watch and their sidewalk clock featuring a high, rectangular base with gilded panels. The base supports a slender fluted column and double-faced dial.
